Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG)

UFMG is one of Brazil's five largest universities, being the largest federal university. It offers more than 80 different undergraduate degrees, including an extremely sought-after Medicine degree, more traditional options such as Law and Economics, plus a handful of Engineering and a wide array of Science and Art degrees. It also offers PhD programs, MSc programs, Post-Baccalaureate programs and medical internship programs. In total, UFMG has a population of around 38 mil students.

UFMG is autonomous in matters of educational policy but dependent on the federal government for funds. As the university is supported by the federal government, students do not pay tuition. However, there may be fees or nominal costs for extension or other special courses.

For the past four years, UFMG has been consistently ranked among the top five universities in the General Index of Courses of the Brazilian Ministry of Education, always receiving the maximum grade. In the nationwide evaluation of graduate programs carried out by the governmental agency CAPES, around 40% of the total achieved grades 6 and 7, reserved for programs with international impact and excellence. UFMG is one of the six Brazilian universities that appear in the ARWU ranking of world's top 500 universities. UFMG is also one of the great innovation centers in Brazil.
